ST&L 3-Day Executive Programme in the CE Marking Process, Accredited by City & Guilds

ST&L 3-Day Executive Programme in the CE Marking Process, Accredited by City & Guilds

Provider: Safety, Technology & Legislation Limited

Class

CE MarkingMachinery Safety

Summary

This 3-day, City & Guilds accredited Executive Programme delivers a comprehensive and applied examination of the CE Marking process for machinery.

Delegates are taken step-by-step through the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, the Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSRs), and the role of harmonised European and International standards in demonstrating conformity.

Complex or technical areas are broken down into clear, accessible explanations, with a strong emphasis on practical application when designing, modifying or integrating machinery and assemblies.

Key learning content

Across the three days, delegates follow the full CE Marking pathway, from establishing the scope and responsibilities, through risk assessment and documentation, to placing machinery on the market or putting it into service.

The programme covers EHSRs in depth, explores presumption of conformity, and explains the principles of safe integration and the three-step method for risk reduction.

A core focus is the Design Risk Assessment (DRA) process, using ST&L’s structured risk-assessment templates and Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) in line with EN ISO 12100.

Delegates learn how to build, organise and maintain a fully compliant Technical File, understand the documentation it must contain, and gain confidence in preparing correct Declarations of Conformity or Incorporation and applying the CE Mark in a legally robust manner.

Who is this course for?

This executive-level programme is designed for individuals who hold, or will hold, significant responsibility for machinery design, compliance, assessment or sign-off, including:

  • Engineering Managers, Technical Managers and Chief Engineers
  • Design Engineers, Project Engineers, R&D Engineers and Systems Engineers
  • Health & Safety Managers, Compliance Managers and Machinery Safety Specialists
  • Production, Operations and Manufacturing Managers with machinery responsibilities
  • Senior Maintenance and Reliability Engineers involved in upgrades or modifications
  • Directors and senior leaders responsible for organisational CE Marking obligations
  • Members of design, project and capital-expenditure teams working with new or modified machinery and assemblies

Delivery format

The course is delivered over 3 days by experienced machinery safety professionals and qualified tutors.

Teaching is highly interactive and incorporates presentations, case studies, worked examples, design-risk assessment activities and practical documentation workshops.

Delegates complete a multiple-choice knowledge assessment, scenario-based evaluation tasks, and a practical hazard-identification exercise using the ST&L Hazard Identification EHSR Checklist on a selected machine.

Organisations may choose to book individual delegates onto a public programme or arrange a dedicated in-house course tailored to their machinery, projects and operational requirements.

Those who successfully meet the required standard are awarded a City & Guilds accredited certificate, demonstrating their competency and commitment to best-practice compliance.

Pricing options

  • Public programme at ST&L’s venue: £1,250 per delegate (ex VAT), including lunch, snacks and hot drinks.
  • In-house at your UK venue: £1,400 per delegate (ex VAT), minimum of 5 delegates.

Aims

The aims of this three-day Executive CE Marking Programme are to:

  • Equip participants with a detailed and operational understanding of the CE Marking process as set out in the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
  • Strengthen confidence in interpreting and applying Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSRs), along with the relevant harmonised European and International standards that support presumption of conformity.
  • Develop practical competence in conducting Design Risk Assessments from initial concept through to final design, using EN ISO 12100 and recognised PHA-based methodologies.
  • Enable delegates to effectively plan, compile and maintain robust Technical Files for both machinery and complex assemblies.
  • Ensure participants are fully prepared to produce accurate Declarations of Conformity or Incorporation and to apply the CE Mark correctly and lawfully.

Objectives

By the end of the programme, delegates will be able to:

  • Clearly explain the end-to-end CE Marking process, outline the purpose and structure of the Machinery Directive, and understand how European Directives are transposed into UK law.
  • Define and correctly interpret key legal concepts such as placing on the market and putting into service, and recognise the practical implications for manufacturers, importers, integrators and end users.
  • Confidently interpret and apply Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSRs), using harmonised standards to achieve presumption of conformity where appropriate.
  • Apply the 3-step method and structured risk-assessment techniques to complete Design Risk Assessments, using ST&L templates and methodologies effectively.
  • Identify the mandatory elements and supporting documentation required for a fully compliant Technical File and explain how it should be maintained throughout the lifecycle of the machinery.
  • Prepare accurate and compliant Declarations of Conformity or Incorporation in accordance with Annex II of the Machinery Directive.
  • Successfully complete both the practical and theory assessments required to achieve City & Guilds accreditation.
